Composition

N°5 is a floral, luminous, and ethereal interpretation of the classic scent. The sumptuous Ylang-Ylang from the Comoros harmonises beautifully with the soft, nuanced facets of May Rose and Jasmine. The addition of aldehydes bestows a distinctive presence, while the velvety touch of Vanilla and musky notes leaves an irresistibly feminine trail.

Inspiration

In 1921, Gabrielle Chanel commissioned Ernest Beaux to craft “a woman’s perfume with a woman’s scent”—something rare and powerful. The result was a pioneering composition that made unprecedented use of aldehydes. Mademoiselle Chanel selected the fifth sample and chose to name it simply N°5. In 2008, Jacques Polge, the CHANEL perfumer since 1978, reimagined this classic to create a luminous version: EAU PREMIÈRE.
